TOMCAT's Full Line of Rodent Baits & Bait Stations

TOMCAT bait blocks are always sold in, or with, a bait station.  This is done to reduce the chances that children, pets, and other wildlife will come into contact with the bait.  Additionally, rodents feel secure in these bait stations where they find and eat the bait.  TOMCAT sells bait stations that meet the varying needs of the consumers, so you can choose the product that’s right for you!

USING TOMCAT BAITS & BAIT STATIONS

Using bait and bait stations properly will help insure your success in getting rid of rats and mice.  For best results, always follow the directions on the product packaging.  Below are suggestions for getting the most from your baiting efforts.

Place Bait Where Rodents Will Find It
When using bait to control rats and mice, it’s critical to place it where rodents will find it – typically between their nest and their food source.  That means placing bait stations along rodent runways next to walls; in dark, secluded areas where rodents like to hide; in locations where you’ve seen signs of rats and mice (droppings, gnaw marks, nesting materials) or heard their movement at night. You may have to place bait stations in attics, along rafters and in drop ceilings near their area of activity.

Recommendations for Bait Station Placement Indoors:
Bait station placement depends on the type of infestation you are dealing with. For MICE, space placements at 8-12 foot intervals depending on the severity of the problem.  For RATS, place bait at 15-30 foot intervals, depending on the severity of the infestation.

A successful strategy for mice is to place glue traps or snap traps along their runways to intercept them on their way to feed.  Place bait stations near the area where they are feeding.  If mice escape capture on the way to feed by taking a different route, the bait will be waiting for them as an alternate food source.

When baiting indoors, we recommend using TOMCAT Kid Resistant Bait Stations in areas pets cannot access.  If pets are present, we recommend using TOMCAT Kid & Dog Resistant Stations.

Recommendations for Bait Station Placement Outdoors:
When baiting outdoors, always use TOMCAT Kid & Dog Resistant Bait Stations.  Bait station placement depends on the type of infestation you are dealing with.  For MICE, space placements at 8-12 foot intervals around the foundation of the home depending on the severity of the problem.  For RATS, place bait at 15-30 foot intervals around the foundation of the home depending on the severity of the infestation.  Also, bait near areas that are common entry points for rodents, such as entry doors, garage doors, below windows, places where utilities enter the home, or any other areas of the home that may not be tightly sealed.  You can also use bait stations in garages and out-buildings, and areas of harborage, such as wood piles (within 50 ft. of a building). Always follow the directions for use on the packaging.

Get the Most from Bait & Bait Stations:

  • Place stations where you’ve seen signs of rats or mice (droppings, nesting materials, gnawed objects, for example).
  • Place bait stations against walls in areas where you have seen rodent activity.  Rats and mice do not see well, and prefer to travel along walls.  However, do not cover the entry hole or rodents may not be able to enter the station.  (See images below for proper placement.)
  • Small bait stations easily slip under appliances and in hard-to-reach places.
  • Check bait stations periodically to see if bait is eaten.  If necessary, move bait station to a different location where you’ve noticed signs of activity.
  • Keep up a fresh supply of bait until all signs of rodents have disappeared.
  • Clean stations periodically and refill with fresh bait (if refillable), or replace with a new station (if disposable).
